Why am I seeing the error "The following emails do not have a Sentry user in the organization" when setting up CODEOWNERS?

Issue

The emails and the associated Sentry users exist in my organization, but I am still seeing this error. I have confirmed that the emails are accurate on the Members page of my org.

  • Users setting up CODEOWNERS

Symptoms

  • Error banner on the Ownership Rules page after importing a CODEOWNERS file

Resolution

For CODEOWNERS to link up to the correct Sentry user, the corresponding Sentry user must have verified their email address.

Sentry does not require that users verify their email addresses before they have org access.

To resend an email verification, go to your personal User settings by clicking on the Org dropdown in the upper right, and then click User settings > Email addresses > Resend Verification.
