We had a recent spike and Sentry's Spike protection did not drop every event. Why is that?

Spike protection is a mechanism devised to assist in a potential spike, but it's not intended to be used as a sole defense against a sudden surge of events.

By using the Stats page (accessible from the left sidebar), you will be able to see the amount of errors Spike protection managed to drop, as well as assess the total volume of events accepted/rejected.

You can utilize several other methods which are explained in the Quota Management article, such as setting sample rate to your projects.
