I can display these metrics in Dashboards using widgets, but I am not sure how to configure an alert for them.

Go to Monitors -&gt; Create Monitor -&gt; Metric and configure your Metric Monitor to measure span duration where <code>span.op</code> is <code>app.start.cold</code> or the relevant equivalent. 

Don't forget to create an <a href="https://docs.sentry.io/product/monitors-and-alerts/alerts/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Alert</a> that will pick up the issues created by this monitor.
