How do I enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on my Sentry account?

Updated over a month ago

Issue

I want to add two-factor authentication, multi-factor authentication (MFA), or a second verification step to my individual Sentry account to improve login security.

Resolution

Step 1: Navigate to Security Settings

  1. In Settings, under the Account section, click Security.

  1. Under the Two-Factor Authentication panel, find the available methods:

  • Authenticator App

  • Passkey / Biometric / Security Key

  1. Click Add next to your preferred method. If your email is unverified, Sentry prompts you to verify it before proceeding.

Step 2a: Authenticator App

  1. Scan the displayed QR code with an authenticator application that supports TOTP (such as Google Authenticator or Authy).

  1. Alternatively, copy the Authenticator secret and enter it manually in your app.

  1. Enter the code from your app in the Authenticator token field.

  1. Click Confirm.

Step 2b: Passkey / Biometric / Security Key

  1. Click Start Enrollment.

  1. Follow your browser's prompt to register your passkey, biometric, or physical security key.

  1. Enter a name for the device, or keep the auto-generated default.

  1. Click Confirm.

Step 3: Set Up Recovery Options

After successful enrollment, a modal appears with recovery options.

  1. Click Get Recovery Codes to view your codes.

  1. On the recovery codes page, copy, print, or download your codes (saved as sentry-recovery-codes.txt).

  1. Store them in a secure location separate from your primary device.

To view recovery codes later, go to Settings > Account > Security and click View Codes next to the Recovery Codes row. To regenerate, click Regenerate Codes. This invalidates all previous codes.
