Why am I getting “Unable to save alert: Could not retrieve Slack channel information” when configuring Slack alerts?

Issue

Slack alerts just stopped coming in. I tried to resave alert rule, but I received an "Unable to save alert: Could not retrieve Slack channel information." error. I checked Slack channel config and I'm sure that is ok.

Applies To

  • Customers on the Team plan and above

  • Customers using the Slack integration

Resolution

When the Slack App for Sentry becomes deactivated, revoked, or removed within Slack (either deliberately or by mistake), Sentry no longer has valid permissions to send messages or retrieve channel information. As a result, any attempts to configure or save an alert to Slack fail because Sentry cannot confirm which channel to send those alerts to. Please check your Slack workspace to confirm whether the Sentry App has been removed or disabled.
