Troubleshooting why Slack alerts are not arriving

Issue

I can see that my alert rule in Sentry was triggered, but I didn't receive a notification in Slack. Notifications may have worked before and stopped, or they may not have worked at all. How do I troubleshoot this?

Resolution

Here are some things that you can check:

  1. Double-check that the Slack channel ID is correct in your Alert rule. Check if your Alert rule is still using the retired legacy Slack plugin action. If so, remove the legacy action and replace it with a new Slack notification action tied to the current Slack integration. More info on legacy Alert rules can be found here: https://www.sentry.help/en/articles/15007504-monitors-alerts-guide-and-faq

  2. Make sure that the Sentry app is invited in the channel by sending a @sentry message in the channel

  3. Make sure that your Slack identity is connected to Sentry by going to your User Settings > Identities here. If it is not, you can send a /sentry link message in Slack

  4. Go to your User Settings > Notifications > Issue Alerts here and make sure that Slack is one of the selected Delivery Methods

  5. If the alert should notify a team, go to your Organization's Settings > Teams > Select a team > Notifications. If the team has not been linked, send a /sentry link team message in the team's corresponding Slack channel

  6. As a last resort, try uninstalling and reinstalling the Slack integration

  7. Add another action to the alert to confirm the alert is triggering correctly.

  8. If none of the above help, please reach out to Sentry Support for further assistance
