How do I fix the Slack “resource does not exist or has not been granted access” error?

Issue

I see the error “The Slack resource does not exist or has not been granted access in the Slack workspace” in the alert UI when I configure or save a Slack channel notification.

Applies To

  • All SaaS Customers and Self-Hosted Users

  • Slack

  • Alerts

Resolution

This error means Sentry cannot access that Slack channel in the selected workspace. It is common for private channels when the Sentry Slack app is not added to the channel.

  1. In Slack, open the target channel. Invite the Sentry bot by typing @sentry and sending the message (or /invite @Sentry).

  2. Confirm the app is on the channel. Right-click the channel name → Open channel settingsIntegrations. The Sentry app should appear under Apps.

  3. In Sentry, open the alert rule. Confirm the correct Slack workspace is selected and the channel name matches Slack.

  4. Save the alert again. Optionally send a test notification.

If the channel was renamed, archived, or deleted, pick a current channel and update the alert.

If the error continues after the Sentry app is listed on the channel, see Troubleshooting why Slack alerts are not arriving, or contact Sentry support.

For the same guidance in product docs, see Can't Use Channel for an Alert.
